Abstract

Objectives: This research aims to assess perceived availability of health resources, geographic and financial access, and their associations with beneficiary satisfaction at a rural hospital in Yemen

Methods: This focused analysis used cross-sectional data from 400 external beneficiaries at Al-Hazm Rural Hospital, Ibb, collected in February 2026. The proportionally allocated sample covered curative (n=185) and preventive (n=215) services. An expert-reviewed, pilot-tested interview questionnaire measured resource availability, travel time, ability to pay, fee suitability, and satisfaction. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations, and adjusted multiple linear regression were used.

Results: Mean resource availability was 3.83±0.79 out of 5 (76.7%), and mean access was 3.48±0.67 (69.6%). A needed unavailable service was reported by 14.3%; among these respondents, specialized imaging/CT and laboratory tests were each reported by 35.1%, medicines by 24.6%, and specialists by 15.8% (multiple responses). Overall, 82.8% reached the hospital within 45 minutes, but 43.1% reported absent or weak ability to pay; 63.3% were satisfied with fee suitability. Availability (r=.629) and access (r=.315) were associated with satisfaction (p<.05).

Conclusion: Resource continuity was the more robust contextual correlate of satisfaction. Planning should combine essential-resource monitoring, reliable referral, and targeted financial protection.
